Catalog Description
The Truck Driving program is a Certificate of Achievement program designed to prepare students for a career as a professional driver. Using modern equipment, the certificate offers instruction and training in forklifts, straight trucks, tractor trailer combinations, including doubles and loaded trucks. Students log approximately 2,000 to 2,500 miles behind the wheel prior to graduation.
Enrollment Completer Projections
It is anticipated that at the conclusion of year 1 and thereafter there will be 30 to 40 student completers for the certificate. Truck driving positions are plentiful and there are many field workers interested in higher paying wages

Program Goal
The goals of the Diesel Technology, Professional Driver Program are to: Truck Driving program prepares students for careers as professional drivers. The curriculum is designed to align with Federal Motor Carrier and PTDI (Professional Truck Drivers Institute) standards. Completion of the certificate qualifies students to enter the professional job market Upon completion of the course the student will be able to meet the following objectives: A. Define safe State driving techniques B. Explain reasons for state laws C. Define safe Federal driving techniques D. Explain reasons for Federal laws E. Comprehend State and Federal commercial related laws F. Perform a brake adjustment exercise G. Identify out of service criteria H. Recognize adverse driving conditions I. Identify proper post-accident procedures J. Identify defensive driving formula K. Demonstrate proper load securement L. Calculate miles to hours of driving M. Calculate Cost per mile N. Calculate and adjust axle weight O. Operate electronic logs P. Prepare a resume and cover letter Q. Properly fill out a job application R. Demonstrate good communication skills S. Perform a State required pre-trip inspection T. Identify all in cab components U. Perform smooth upshifting and downshifting 1. 9 or 10 speed dual range transmission 2. 10 speed auto transmission 3.
