This certificate includes instruction in the support of a modern workplace computer environment including hardware, operating systems, online environments, and application programs. Students in this program practice modern diagnostic troubleshooting, technical and logical problem solving, end-user training, and customer relations skills. Students completing this certificate program will be qualified for entry-level computer technical support, IT and help desk positions.
The projected number of annual completers of the Computer Technical support Certificate of Achievement is 10 – 20 students. This estimate is based on estimated past course enrollment data shown in the table below.

Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Occupational: This program addresses a valid occupational role, that of entry-level computer technical support. The program is designed to provide students with the foundational technical and customer service skills to meet employers’ needs. Students completing this certificate program will be qualified for employment as entry-level computer technical support, IT and help desk positions.
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Evaluate components and configure a functional computer system.
- Troubleshoot and repair defective computer systems.
- Configure and diagnose basic network connectivity.
- Demonstrate correct use of office productivity applications.

This program starts with CNIT 100 – Introduction to Computers Using PC’s, which provides a computer literacy foundation and covers standard office productivity applications. Through CNIT 101 – Operating Systems 1 – Windows, CNIT 102 – Operating Systems II – Command Line, CNIT 104 – Operating Systems Technologies, CNIT 103 – Computer Hardware, and CNIT 106 – Introduction to Networks, these courses build the technical evaluation, configuration, and troubleshooting of operating systems, hardware, and networking that are required of a Computer Technician. CNIT 105 – IT Customer Support, CNIT 103L – Computer Hardware Lab, CNIT 105L – Computer Technical Support, and CNIT 197 – Internship and Work Experience provide the hands-on skills and customer interfacing practice required for gainful employment.
