Catalog Description

The Aviation Mechanic Technician-Airframe Certificate of Achievement (30 units) is designed to develop skills for licensure and entry into the field of aviation maintenance. Upon completion of this certificate, students demonstrate a general understanding of flight surfaces, apply critical thinking skills to technical issues, make preliminary diagnoses during troubleshooting, remove and replace aircraft components, and demonstrate an understanding of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. This program prepares students for careers as aircraft mechanics, aircraft nondestructive testing analysts, aviation troubleshooters, and aviation quality control managers.

Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better or of "P" if the class is taken on a pass/no-pass basis.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Perform an inspection for all flight surfaces and rigging cables in the empennage section of the aircraft.
  2. Perform rod end adjustments to place landing gear door clearance within the designated specifications provided in the applicable Structural Repair Manual (SRM).
  3. Explain the difference in function and fluid flow between a single-action and tandem-action hydraulic flight surface actuator.
