Catalog Description

This certificate program provides students with the foundational skills needed for an entry-level position in the growing field of Project Management including being introduced to project management, project management software, financial management, and personnel management. Today’s project management positions are found in a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, engineering, architecture, finance, and real estate development.

Program Learning Outcomes:

a) Identify and define project needs. 

b) Explore the project quality management processes of quality planning, quality assurance, and quality control necessary to successfully meet conformance to project requirements and fitness of use. 

c) Identify, analyze, and resolve project problems. Quality standards and various methodologies are explored as tools and techniques used to manage project quality and resolve problems.

d) Plan project schedules and budgets.

e) Manage effectively in a variety of project organizational structures.

f) Communicate effectively among various project personnel and stakeholders

g) Utilize the MS Project Management software and MS Outlook software to work in an efficient and productive manner as a project manager.

h) Apply the fundamentals of accounting, supervising and leading, business management and human resources 

i) Explore program manager jobs in a variety of industries and how these skills are transferrable between industries.

Program Requirements Narrative

The idea of this certificate is to serve both transfer and career students. This certificate provides career students the skills to prepare them for an entry-level project management position. Those students interested in transferring to a four-year institution will be able to transfer three of six courses: Accounting2 (C-ID ACCT 110), Accounting 4 (C-ID ACCT 120) and Business 20 (C-ID BUS 110).The other three courses focus on the specific knowledge and skills needed for project management. This completion of this certificate provides students an opportunity to find employment in a variety of industries and will enable them to find employment while continuing their education towards a degree or degrees.
