The Automotive Engine Diagnostics Technician Certificate of Achievement prepares students for careers as automotive technicians with an emphasis in engine performance and diagnostics. This program will provide students with the hands-on practical training in advanced engine diagnostics. The topics covered by the required courses are OBD 2operation, diagnostics, & performance, port & direct fuel injected engine systems, closed area network (CAN) operation & diagnostics ,computer-controlled vehicle fuel mapping, and ignition timing systems. This certificate prepares students for careers such as Automotive Drivability Technician, Automotive Engine Performance Technician, and General Automotive Technician. The Automotive Engine Diagnostics Technician Certificate of Achievement is a low unit certificate that will build on the completion of Beginning Technician Certificate of Achievement.

Program Goal

The goal of the Automotive Engine Diagnostics Technician Certificate of Achievement program is to offer courses in the automotive engine diagnostics field. The courses are designed to prepare students for entry into the specialized field of diagnosing, testing, and repairing computer-controlled ignition, fuel, and emissions systems. These systems are utilized in the specialized field of domestic and foreign vehicles and light trucks. It is our intention to give the learner the opportunity to develop a rewarding career in engine performance vehicle repair, service, and maintenance. Students will gain competency in utilizing common diagnostic tools and equipment; analyzing and repairing starter and charging systems; analyzing trouble code signals; and evaluating all current electronic sensors used in emissions control components. This program prepares students to work on passenger vehicles and light trucks from major foreign and domestic vehicle manufacturers.
