Catalog Description

The Emergency Medical Services program prepares students to achieve certification and licensure to enter into EMS career paths. Students begin their training by completing EMS1 Emergency Medical Responder. This program includes curriculum necessary to prepare the student to become a Nationally Registered EMT. Students, upon successful completion of the Chabot College EMT training program, including didactic and clinical, will be eligible to sit for the licensing exam with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), and successful students will be eligible for licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician in the state of California.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Expect 40 to 80 students to enroll and complete the AS degree annually after the initial year.

  1. Upon completion of the AS in Emergency Medical Services EMT, students are prepared as a competent entry-level EMT in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domain with or without exit points at the Emergency Medical Technician  and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
  2. Upon completion of the AS in Emergency Medical Services EMT, students are prepared to become a Nationally Registered EMT.

Program Requirements Narrative

This course enrollment requires: Evidence of immunizations and Titers for the following: measles, mumps, and rubella; Hepatitis B;  Varicella, Tdap and a current (within one year of course completion) negative TB test along with an updated Flu and COVID vaccine.  Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR card. May not receive credit for EMS3 if Health 81 or EMS2/2W has been completed successfully.  Prerequisite: EMS1 (completed with an 80% or better).
