The Law Office Management Certificate of Achievement at Oxnard College prepares students for careers in office management in the legal field by equipping them with the interdisciplinary skills and knowledge necessary to manage a law office efficiently. This program focuses on legal technology, administrative tasks, financial management, and case management/calendaring, ensuring graduates are ready for immediate employment in various legal environments such as law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies.
The Law Office Management Certificate of Achievement program is not ABA approved and is not designed to prepare students for the practice of law, nor is it designed to meet the requirements of Business and Professions Code Section 6450 (Paralegal Qualifications).

The Law Office Management Certificate of Achievement (COA) at Oxnard College is designed to prepare students for successful office management careers in the legal field through an interdisciplinary education. The program aims to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to manage a law office efficiently. This includes mastering administrative tasks, financial management, and human resource functions, ensuring that graduates are ready for immediate employment in various legal environments such as law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies.
In addition to workforce preparation, the COA emphasizes the development of basic skills essential for law office management. Students will gain proficiency in office management software and technologies commonly used in legal settings. They will also enhance their communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, which are crucial for handling the dynamic demands of a law office.
Civic education is another cornerstone of the COA. The program strives to foster an understanding of ethical practices and professional responsibilities in the legal field. Students are encouraged to engage with their communities and appreciate the role of law offices in serving the public and upholding justice.
Recognizing the importance of lifelong learning, the COA promotes continuous professional development. Students are encouraged to stay abreast of changes in the legal industry and pursue further education and certifications to advance their careers in law office management.
The program objectives are designed to ensure that students acquire transferable skills, technical proficiency, and professional competence. The COA provides a solid foundation in legal terminology, office procedures, and case management, enabling students to apply their skills across various legal settings. Training in legal management software and document management systems ensures that students can efficiently manage records, schedule appointments, and coordinate legal activities.
Professional competence is further developed through training in financial management, including billing, budgeting, and financial reporting. Students also learn to oversee human resources functions, such as hiring, training, and supervising staff.
Ethical and civic responsibility is a key focus, with an emphasis on confidentiality, integrity, and adherence to legal standards. Students are encouraged to participate in community service and understand the impact of legal services on society.

It's hard to interpret the LMI data for a program like this, since you have to blend two different occupations. The advisory board seems to believe this is a need.
