The Entrepreneurship in Modern Making Certificate of Achievement prepares students to transform creative ideas into sustainable ventures using makerspace methodology and foundational business principles. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students develop technical skills using makerspace tools and fabrication processes while gaining practical knowledge in entrepreneurship, marketing, project management, and professional portfolio development.
The program integrates innovation, design thinking, and business strategy to prepare students for self-employment, small business ownership, or roles within fabrication, product development, and creative industries. This certificate is designed for students seeking to launch or expand a maker-based enterprise, develop a professional portfolio, or gain applied business skills to support creative and technical career pathways.
Projected completers are 12, but may increase with cross-disciplinary courses taken in both Business and Digital Design and Production.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The Entrepreneurship in Modern Making Certificate of Achievement aims to:
- Integrate makerspace methodology with foundational business education.
- Prepare students to develop and launch viable product- or service-based ventures.
- Foster innovation, problem-solving, and design thinking skills.
- Equip students with practical entrepreneurial competencies.
- Support students in building professional portfolios that demonstrate technical and entrepreneurial readiness.
This certificate supports both entrepreneurial pathways and entry-level employment in innovation-driven, fabrication, and small business environments.
