Enrollment Eligibility:
To be eligible for enrollment in the program, the student must meet the following criteria:
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Complete the online CVT Program application by the deadline.
  • Complete all program prerequisites: CHEM 305, BIOL 430, BIOL 431, and STAT C1000.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in science prerequisite courses (no D, or F grades accepted).
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in non-science prerequisite courses (no D, or F grades accepted).
Enrollment Process:
Eligible students are selected for the program according to the following steps:
  • All students must meet Enrollment Eligibility Criteria at the time of application. Complete a CVT program application by the application deadline(check the CVT website for specific dates). Upload unofficial transcripts from all colleges attended. Upload any approved Course Substitution Petitions. Submission of one official transcript (if you have taken classes outside of the Los Rios Community College District) by the application deadline.
  • After the application deadline, all applicants are placed in a lottery pool for selection. The Program Director will verify that each applicant only has their name once in the pool.
  • The list of all applicants is given to the division Dean, who randomizes the list by using a computer program. CVT faculty and/or staff are not involved in the randomization process.
  • The randomized list is returned to the CVT Program Director. The foremost applicants on the list will be evaluated for eligibility by the Program Director until 10 eligible applicants are identified. Once 10 eligible applicants are identified, offers of admission are emailed to the applicants by the Program Director. Offers of admission are sent within 2-4 weeks of the application close date. Alternates are utilized when eligible applicants from the top 10 decline admission. Alternates are selected based upon their position on the randomized list. When an alternate is utilized the Program Director will evaluate their application for eligibility. Eligible alternates will be notified using the email provided in their online application and have 24 hours to respond. If the alternate does not respond within the 24-hour period they will be no longer be considered, and the next alternate will be contacted.
  • The Program Director evaluates applications for eligibility, only for candidates being reviewed for admission into a cohort.
  • At any time, all applicants have the option to view Program eligibility requirements on the website and/or meet with a school counselor to obtain eligibility guidance.
Description:
The Cardiovascular Technology Program at Sacramento City College is a two-year course of study leading to a Certificate of Achievement. The cardiovascular technologist provides cardiac support to the patient under the direction of a licensed physician. They operate sophisticated medical instruments used in the diagnosing and treating of cardiovascular disease.

The Cardiovascular Technology curriculum covers four regular semesters. The first semester core curriculum of the program is composed of lecture and laboratory classes. The second semester of the program includes courses in lectures, on-campus lab and off-campus clinical rotations. Students must provide their own transportation to the clinical sites and hospital observations. The third semester includes lecture and off-site clinical rotations. The fourth semester includes lecture and a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) exam prep course and off-site clinical rotation. Some late afternoon and evening classes may be required. This program will be offered at the Davis Center.

Career Opportunities:
A Cardiovascular Technologist works in a cardiac setting within a hospital or private practice. Salary range is estimated at $56.01-$84.21 per hour. Can be per diem (part time, on call) and full-time.
