The Electrified Vehicle Technology Certificate is designed to prepare students and working technicians for entry-level employment or career advancement in the rapidly evolving field of electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance and repair. With a focus on safety, technical proficiency, and emerging technologies, this five-course certificate program provides hands-on training and theoretical knowledge aligned with industry standards.

Students will gain essential skills in basic automotive systems, electrical fundamentals, vehicle computer systems, and safe servicing of high-voltage electrified vehicles. This program is ideal for individuals with a basic understanding of automotive systems or those seeking to expand their qualifications into electric vehicle (EV) service and repair.

A Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Electric & Hybrid Systems Technician will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the curriculum listed below, with a minimum grade of a "C" (or P) in each course in the certificate and maintains a 2.0 GPA.

Enrollment Completer Projections

There are increasing number of students completing Automotive Technology programs from 99 in the 23-24 academic year to 125 in 24-25. This number is expected to increase especially with the need for electric vehicle technology related occupations in the region.

Program Goal

This certificate program is designed as a standalone credential for current industry technicians seeking to upskill and gain the specialized knowledge required to safely service high-voltage hybrid and electric vehicles. In addition, the program is structured as a stackable certificate, providing a fast-track option for automotive students pursuing advanced training in electrified vehicle technology. This program is aimed to expand and enhance electric vehicle training opportunities in order to meet the growing demand for qualified EV technicians across California.
