Master Planning: Gavilan College's Mission Statement declares that the College "cultivates learning and personal growth in students of all backgrounds and abilities through innovative practices in both traditional and emerging learning environments; transfer pathways, career and technical education," and "prepare students for success in a dynamic and multicultural world." This is supported by the College's Strategic Plan: "STRATEGY #1 Optimize enrollment, course offerings, and services to reflect community needs and growth." "Goal #4 Support programs ... intended to prepare students for entry into basic skills, transfer, and career technical programs." and STRATEGY #2 ... "enhance curriculum and programs in order to help students meet their educational, career, and personal goals." (College Strategic Plan FY 2015 – 2016 Through 2019 – 2020). With this in mind and through the financial support and directive of the "State of California Strong Workforce Funding (SWF) which legislated $200 million annually to expand quality community college Career Technical Education (CTE) and workforce development courses, programs, pathways, credentials, certificates and degrees" "CTE Dean Sherrean Carr convened a task force which met throughout Fall 2016 to identify strategies". Six new regional CTE programs were established at Gavilan College as a part of these initiatives, with the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technology program being one of them. "Gavilan College received nearly $1 million from the California Strong Workforce Program for the upcoming academic year to expand Career Technical Education (CTE) programs leading to high demand, high wage jobs in the region. The California Strong Workforce goal is to create one million more middle-skilled workers in partnership with the state's 113 community colleges."
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
The development of Gavilan College's Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technology program has been a collaborative effort. Regional partners are San Jose City College and Laney College. Their courses and program certificates have been used as a model to help in the development of Gavilan's HVAC technology program.
