Geographic Information Systems (220610)
06/21/21
The GIS and Technology AS/Certificate of Achievement educates students in the skills needed to gather, manage, model, interpret, analyze, and display spatial data. Students who complete this program are prepared for careers in Geographic Information Systems, with special skills in related industries including environmental consulting, drafting, and programming. This program uses a variety of mapping and data collection methods, and provides training in industry standards, cartographic techniques, and developing technologies.
An Associates of Science degree or Certificate of Achievement is awarded upon completion of all required courses with a grade of C or better.
The 18 unit AS/Certificate of Achievement consists of four core GIS courses: Introduction to GIS, Spatial Analysis, Data Acquisition and Management, and Cartographic Design, followed by two specialization courses that lets students focus their expertise in Environmental Consulting, Python programming, CAD integration, or Surveying.
Learning Outcomes:
1.Ability to conduct geospatial data entry, digitization and conversion, and geospatial data building, modeling, or analysis.
2. Perform analysis of geospatial data to identify spatial relationships or display results of analyses, using maps, graphs, or tabular data.
3. Effectively communicate through the design or preparation of graphic representations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
4. Build and manage existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases.
It is estimated that approximately 15 students will complete this certificate per academic year.
