Database Programming and Administration Certificate of Achievement

This certificate includes instruction and practice in database fundamentals and interacting with databases using both SQL queries and procedural programming. This course of study prepares students for entry-level positions in database management, administration, development and programming.

We estimate that 15 students will complete this certificate annually in the first few years.

Occupational: Students completing this certificate program will bequalified for entry-level positions in database management, administration,development and programming.

Semester 1:

·     3 units: CS 150A – Introduction to SQL Databases and NoSQL

·     2 units: CS 160A – Introduction to Unix/Linux

·     2 units: CS 160B– Unix/Linux Shell Scripting

·     4 units: CS 111B - Programming Fundamentals: Java or CS 131B - Programming Fundamentals: Python or CS 130A - PHP Programming or CS 132A - Ruby Programming

Semester 2:

·     6 units by taking two of the following courses:CS 155P - MySQL Programming; CS 155B - MySQL Database Administration; CS 231 -Advanced Python Programming; CS 211E - Advanced Java: Enterprise; CS 130B -Advanced PHP Programming; CS 232 - Ruby on Rails Development

·     1-4 units: CS 177 - Software Engineering OR CS195/CNIT 195 - Software Development Practicum OR CS 198 - Industry Internship OR CNIT 197 - Internship and Work Experience OR CNIT 198 - Internship and Work Experience

This revision of the Database curriculum at CCSF is needed to consolidate 3 different database certificates into one, to streamline our offerings for better enrollment management, while enhancing students ability to work in a variety of database environments. Keeping up with workforce training needs such as this is primary to the mission, curriculum, and master planning of the college and higher education in California.

This is a revision of our existing certificate, so it won't impact other colleges.
