Catalog Description

The Water Technology Certificate of Achievements provides the relevant knowledge and skills required for entry-level employment or internship as an Operator In Training, Water Operator, Instrumentation Technician, Laboratory Technician, Maintenance, or other water-related positions. The subjects are taught using a practical approach with an emphasis on water and wastewater procedures, standards, and other job-related skills.

Program Learning Outcomes:

 • Determine the appropriate methods and formulas necessary to solve problems relating to water.

• Demonstrate competence in drinking water quality standards and public health issues.

• Demonstrate competence in instruments, control systems, and testing circuits utilizing safe and industry-standard practices and procedures.

• Demonstrate the basic principles of conventional water treatment processes.

• Identify the various sources of water available for use in the water distribution system.

• Identify the various types of pipes, fittings, and appurtenant structures used in a water system.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Approximately 15-24 students will complete this certificate in 3 semesters.

Program Goal

This Certification of Achievement is aligned to current Labor Market Information foundational skills and meets the technical skills gap demand in the Bay Area’s Water industry.  The certificate was created by an Industry Advisory Committee and meets Bay Area California Community Colleges Consortium (BACCC) approval requirements to fill a projected skills gap.
