Catalog Description

The Automotive Service Councils of California Association (ASCCA) sponsored degree program offers a unique, on-the-job training opportunity for students accepted by a sponsoring Automotive Repair Dealer (ARD) or affiliate. Students will be required to further their studies in an ASCCA sponsoring repair facility as a paid apprentice technician. Successful students will gain over 1,000 hours of documented and evaluated paid work experience relating to the learning objectives of the program, Automotive Service Excellence Certifications, and California Smog Inspector and Repair Technician licensing training. This is an excellent major for students wanting to own or operate an independent business.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Enrollment, commencement, and work experience predictions reflect student and business needs assessment similar to manufacturer training programs. Creating a certificate should increase completion, and the creation of universally designed course that apply to all majors and certificates. This allows autonomy for education planning and scheduling facilitating increased commencement. CE programs also consider work experience and job placement equally important to completion. Establishing work experience opportunities with ASCCA has grown student job placement throughout the region and state, increasing the interaction of educators, students, and business owners leading to increased student wages.

an anticipated 25 annual completers in the ASCCA program

MiraCosta college recommends. Presumably all of the colleges still report gainful employment data, in some way, to our potential students, so, this should inform students' decisions.

Cuyamaca College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. There is a supply gap (110 annual job openings), entry-level wages are $14.69 and median wages are $20.74. Based on available LMI, the COE report supports the program modification. The COE also recommends that colleges communicate to students that the occupation’s entry-level wages are below the living wage, suggesting that more training and experience are needed for workers in this occupation to reach median wage levels.
