Catalog Description

Certificate of Achievement, students will be prepared to complete the National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer Examination. Successful completion of the NASM CPT and the MPC Certified Personal Trainer Certificate of Achievement provides the opportunity for employment in the fitness industry as a Certified Personal Trainer. Employment opportunities include working in commercial clubs, personal training studios, and entrepreneurial business owner or manager.

Enrollment Completer Projections
With the growing number of students in our Kinesiology AA-T program we  believe that this program will also grow.  We predict small completion numbers in the first/second years  but  growth coinciding with the growth of the Kinesiology program in subsequent years. Interest was shown in our Kinesiology classes to have a clear pathway to employment while building towards a degree in the area of personal training.   There is a need in our local area for personal training due to numerous gyms and studios as well as our geriatric and retired populations. This need will also aid our enrollment and completion numbers as the program grows.

Goal of Program

CTE

Include any other information you would like to share.
Completion of this certificate gives the student an avenue to gain employment, while still building towards employment and a Kinesiology degree. The certificate also provides the student an opportunity to build and apply their knowledge of activity and exercise in a practical setting. This need will also aid our enrollment and completion numbers as the program grows
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
Similar programs are found at other BACCC colleges, Gavilan College being the closest (one completer in the last three years). The Monterey area has many fitness centers, gyms, and boutique fitness studios that have needs for personal trainers. There is also a need for personal trainers due to our areas high geriatric and retired populations.
