Educational Support and Workforce Pathways

This bachelor’s degree is an applied education workforce degree designed for rural and underserved communities. It is not a teacher credential program. Instead, it prepares students for bachelor’s-level and pre-credential roles across K–12, adult education, correctional education, and community-based educational settings. Graduates will understand instructional support, learner development, rural education systems, institutional effectiveness, ethical leadership, and pathways into California education credentials and permits. The degree is intended to create a local pipeline for substitute teachers, education support specialists, adult/correctional education personnel, and education program staff, while also preparing interested students to pursue credential programs or other advanced education pathways.

• The proposed Bachelor of Applied Science in Educational Support and Workforce Pathways is an important addition to Lassen College’s academic programs. By building on our current Associate of Science degrees, this four-year degree gives students in-depth skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to the day-to-day realities of working in rural educational settings. The program is designed to specifically equip graduates with the analytical and problem-solving skills essential for effective service and advancement in rural and underserved community agencies.

   

  Our program's goal is not just to prepare students for entry-level positions, but also to help them move up in their careers over time. The curriculum is aligned with regional best practices and state transfer pathways, strengthening graduates’ ability to pursue further study or professional development as needed. Whether students want to work as teacher assistants, work in more advanced roles, pursue master’s level degrees, or enter a teacher’s credential program, the curriculum provides a strong foundation in problem-solving, research, communication, and leadership. This specialized focus on rural communities also gives graduates an extra advantage when it comes to applying for promotions or taking on supervisory positions in their agencies.
