Catalog Description

The Wildland Firefighter Technician Certificate of Achievement (13.5 units) is designed to develop skills for entry-level wildland firefighters. Upon completion of this certificate, students hold industry certificates in wildland firefighting, CPR, forestry, as well as gain work experience. This program prepares students for entry-level wildland firefighting jobs and support roles within public land management agencies. 

Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better or of "P" if the class is taken on a pass-no-pass basis.

Program Goal

This program goal is career technical education and meets the college mission by providing innovative delivery methods and critically needed workforce education through community partnerships. The Cerro Coso Community College Master Plan includes expansion of programming specific to Tehachapi and Eastern Sierra College Center with extensive community input, cross-sector partnerships, available workforce funding, legislative directives, and Chancellor’s Office alignment. It also fulfills the defined goals of the public service annual unit plans in the area of forestry and outdoor recreation. This program has been developed in conjunction with multiple other programs across the industry sectors identified by federal, state, and local initiatives. The curriculum development process included Public Services Advisory committee input and voting, paid professional curriculum expert input, and regional MOU development with public agencies.
