Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

With current innovations in non-linear editing and digital effects, the post-production phase has increasingly broadened the scope of the film, television or audio product. It is often said that a “film is created in post.” Students can build independent careers, as well as work with small or major post-production facilities and studios.

Given our student demographics: older students, returning students, and students looking for Career technical education, a Certificate of Achievement in Post Production allows students to complete a higher level of credentialing in order to enter the highly competitive job market in Los Angeles, center of the Entertainment Industry. We attract creative students, and students who work or want to work in the creative industries.

Our Sound Design/Video Post Production program has the latest in audio and video editing software for student use. We currently teach DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and Digidesign ProTools and offer Avid™ Certification.

Along with these improvements, our faculty continues to pursue professional development opportunities that have resulted in advanced post production editing and color courses. These courses include studies in advanced editing techniques and practical skills in visual effects, motion graphics, compositing, sound design, color correction, and finishing and Avid™ Media Composer Certification.

Los Angeles City College offers low-cost, comprehensive, hands-on training to a diverse population, who might not be in a position to afford a 4-year commitment to an LA-area film college or university. Students have the option to complete basic college courses with certificates, receive an Associate Arts Degree in Cinema or Television Production (AA), and transfer to four-year institutions.

LACC is uniquely positioned to provide excellent entertainment industry training, particularly considering the geographical proximity of the campus to the Hollywood community.

The LACC Cinema/TV Department was awarded an unprecedented $2 million donation from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The support of the HFPA continues with annual LACC student-awarded fellowships, Golden Globe™ internships, and other interactions special events. New Program

Place of program in college's curriculum/similar program.
The program will require the existing local Post Production skills certificate to be archived, as this new state-approved certificate will replace it.
List similar programs at other colleges in the Los Angeles and Orange County Region.
A Media Arts Post-Production Certificate is offered at Saddleback College and LA Valley College. The Saddleback Post-Production certificate of achievement has 18-21 units with electives allowed and they also offer a Post Production Occupational Skills Certificate. The only other two-year school in the LA/OC area that offers a specific certificate of achievement in post-production is LA Valley. LAVC offers a 24-unit certificate of achievement in Post- Production as well as a 60 unit AA degree in this area. Many other schools in the LA/OC offer editing, sound or video postproduction as part of a more generalized certificate in Film/Video but only these two schools address this need directly. Our campus location, directly under the Hollywood sign, our CTE Advisory Board, and our students demand this specialized certificate.
