Catalog Description

The Certificate of Achievement in Concrete Industry Technician (CIT) program is a business intensive program, providing solid management skills that can be used in any industry, but has been developed specifically for the concrete industry. The program gives students entering the concrete work force an advantage since they gain valuable industry experience early in their careers, unlike others who have generic business degrees.

The program entails a broad range of courses, from English and history to science and mathematics. A series of required business courses such as finance, marketing, management and business law are also taken throughout the length of the program. The concrete-specific courses teach the fundamentals of concrete, properties and testing, concrete construction and more. All of these courses provide much more than what is simply in the text – they emphasize problem solving, quality assurance and customer satisfaction.

Enrollment Completer Projections

This program is designed to align with the CSU Chico Concrete Industry Management Program which is in the process of growing. I would estimate that at the start of this new program that we would start with a cohort of 24, with the goal of graduating 24 students each year. Depending on factors with the industry and economy, those numbers should grow as our Construction Management program did.

It looks like a need exists at some capacity for the skills and construction continues to be an area many builders' request. The data is about three years old, does the new data show a better outlook? Otherwise it seems like a good new option
