Catalog Description

Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession whose practitioners work in diverse settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools, community health centers, skilled nursing facilities, mental health facilities, and work environments. The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) is a key member of the healthcare team, providing occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed occupational therapist. The OTA supports individuals of all ages facing health or medical challenges that limit their ability to perform daily functional activities. Once graduated and certified, the OTA assists clients through interventions focused on improving skills for activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), and other functional tasks, including mobility, self-care, and social participation across the lifespan. The OTA is also skilled in implementing therapeutic activities, environmental adaptations, and the use of adaptive equipment, as well as assisting with sensory integration techniques and other modalities to promote independence and enhance quality of life.
