Program Goal

Purpose and Goals and Specific Objectives of Degree/CertificateThe goal of this Certificate is to focus the education of students preparing for higher levels of architectural education or for employment as designers in architectural firms.  Students who have completed the coursework for this Certificate will have strong skills in the aesthetic design of architectural projects.

Background and RationaleHoused within the Career Technical Education Division, this program provides support of a path to those looking for employability in the field of architecture and/or a strong resume for admission to an Architecture program of a 4-year academic institution.  A student earning this Certificate has shown a high level of knowledge and ability in the aesthetics of architectural design.  Such students have the creative skills to develop effective designs with appropriate consideration of style and the experience to express their designs in multiple forms.  Therefore, this course satisfies the need to provide the architectural design industry with creative personnel trained in artistic expression.

Place of Program in Curriculum/Similar Programs at Rio HondoThis program is complimentary to other Certificates and Degrees in the field of Architecture.  Although some coursework is common, completion of this program indicates a focus on architectural aesthetics as opposed to the technical requirements of projects (which are addressed in other related Certificates and Degrees).
