Item 1.            Program Goals and Objectives

 

The Certificate of Achievement in Music Industry Studies prepares students for careers as Audio Engineers, Artist Managers, Composers of Music for Film and Video Games, Concert Promoters, and other commercial ventures. The program includes courses in Management, Quickbooks, Audio and Recording techniques, Music Theory, Music Skills (Musicianship), and serves as a partial foundation for continued education at four-year institutions. Program Outcomes

1.     Students will employ proper audio engineering and midi techniques to produce sound recording projects.

2.     Students will employ proper instrumental or vocal technique to construct thoughtfully prepared musical phrasing.

3.     Analyze a situation in the music industry and recommend a solution or plan for improvement.

Item 4.            Master Planning

 

This certificate represents a solution to employment needs in the ongoing and growing field of the music industry. The courses consist of Audio Production, Business, and Music courses with a heavy emphasis on job-oriented hands-on lab experience. The certificate allows for entry-level placement and/or more advanced study.

The data shows a robust growth in the number of students at Laney College who are in majors that require rigorous training in lower-division computer science courses.

Students in our Music and Media departments have been asking for this program for many years. We brought the AA through BACCC last year and then was asked to create a CA also.

Diablo Valley College "Music Industry Studies." Our program will serve students in the immediate Oakland area who are not able to travel to DVC for their studies.
