Goal of Program

CTE

Include any other information you would like to share.
This certificate meets the missions of Diablo Valley College and Contra Costa Community College District by providing career education and supporting the healthy development of young children in the Bay Area. The ECE Department is a primary resource for educating quality early childhood professionals. This contributes to the economic development for all workers in the community. The department has addressed the predicted 10% employment growth for preschool teachers and a 15% employment growth for Child Care Workers in the state. Currently, there is a state requirement for all Transitional Kindergarten teachers to complete 24 Child Development units in order to teach in a Transitional Kindergarten program. To meet this need, the DVC's ECE Department is providing course offerings to address this need including several newly developed ECE/TK focused curriculum courses. In addition, the department offers the new internship and work experience courses ECE-295 and ECE-296.This certificate will meet the practical experience hours needed for the Child Development Permit as well as provide graduates with course work in infant toddler development and early childhood curriculum. This will prepare graduates of this certificate to better serve young children and allow them greater opportunity for employment upon completion of the certificate.
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
