This program is designed to prepare the student for employment in the field of Consumer Affairs. A variety of opportunities are available in credit counseling, financial counseling, consumer protection, financial coordinating, and patient financial counseling.  Students desiring a bachelor’s degree can earn this A.S. Degree in their major prior to transfer to a CSU Consumer Affairs program.

Program Goals:

  • This program is designed to prepare the student for employment in the field of Consumer Affairs. A variety of opportunities are available in credit counseling, financial counseling, consumer protection, financial coordinating, and patient financial counseling. 
  • This program provides an opportunity for students desiring a bachelor’s degree in Consumer Affairs to earn this A.S. Degree in their major prior to transfer to CSULB’s Consumer Affairs Program.
  • This program stacks the courses in the Consumer Affairs—Accredited Financial Counseling Certificate with General Education coursework to prepare students for career opportunities beyond the certificate, or for transfer.

     

    Program Learning Outcomes for the Consumer Affairs A.S. Degree:

    • Students completing the Consumer Affairs A. S. Degree will be able to create a financial goal setting plan with a client.
    • Students competing the Consumer Affairs A. S. Degree will be able to counsel a client on strategies to manage their debts.
    • Students completing the Consumer Affairs A. S. Degree will be able to educate a client on the basics of investing

      The courses in this program are designed to prepare the student for employment in the field of Consumer Affairs or transfer to a CSU with a Consumer Affairs program to earn a bachelor's degree to work in a broader opportunity of jobs in Consumer Affairs.
