Catalog Description
Upon successful completion of the Agriculture Engineering Production Plant - Level 2 Mechanical Certificate of Achievement, the student demonstrates skills and knowledge in occupational safety, applied math, electrical safety, computer use in the workplace, communication, team-working, sanitation practices, metal-working, industrial controls, processes, systems, automation, mechatronics, HVAC, hydraulics, metal cutting, and basic welding. The Agriculture Engineering Production Plant - Level 2 Mechanical Certificate of Achievement coursework provides students with skills for entry-level positions in food processing, manufacturing, and automated facilities.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and operation of industrial automation devices and circuits.
- Identify the correct horsepower electric motor for a given hydraulic system design.
The Agriculture Engineering Production Plant certificate program at San Joaquin Delta College projects that the “annual completers” are limited to the number of seats and CTE courses offered. CTE courses usually have courses limited to around 30 students. Many of the CTE courses used in the certificate have multiple courses available. The course success and retention rates are around 80%, based on courses listed on the certificate (please see the attached Delta Dashboard course success and retention rates for courses listed in the certificate). After fully established, we are projecting 20 “annual completers”.

Explain the roles of the food service worker and manager in the prevention of foodborne illnesses
Identify basic safety and accident prevention techniques
Select the proper equipment and operation to perform simple tasks in the industry
Evaluate the ability of machines to perform specified tasks
Demonstrate the proper use of measuring devices
Connect AC electrical equipment
Explain the basic methods for controlling process machines and driven equipment in industry in terms of types, requirements, advantages, and disadvantages
Identify and compare analog devices and digital solid state devices used to control systems in industry
Demonstrate a basic understanding of alternating and direct current circuit theory (series, parallel and combination)
Explain basic wiring requirements and code requirements for industrial control systems
Successfully program a programmable controller and perform specific functions for a variety of industrial situations
Utilize standard robotics components to complete a given task
Demonstrate the ability to evaluate components over the Internet
Identify and use basic refrigeration and air conditioning tools and equipment
Use proper safety in the shop
Define and to analyze the basic refrigeration cycle
Recover and recycle refrigerants
Analyze malfunctioning components and prescribe the needed repairs
Select the proper components to construct a simple fluid system
Develop a maintenance schedule for fluid systems
Demonstrate safe welding practices using oxy-acetylene and shielded metal arc welding
Describe and demonstrate safety requirements for welding processes covered in accordance with American Welding Society and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards
Describe and demonstrate important employability skills such as proper work ethic, team building, and interpersonal communication practices and their importance in the workplace
