Catalog Description
The Certificate of Achievement in Music Notation provides the student with career preparation for entry-level positions in the burgeoning fields of music notation and publishing. The student learns and applies various music notation formats using computer software. Music Notation provides a comprehensive overview and introduction to music notation. Topics include melodic and harmonic nomenclature, staff notation, chord names, rhythmic structure, compositional forms, and building blocks for jazz improvisation. Students will develop a more complete understanding of the fundamentals of music, finding themselves better prepared for other courses and employment.

Program Goal
The Certificate of Achievement in Music Notation provides the student with career preparation for entry-level positions in the burgeoning fields of music notation and publishing. The student learns and applies various music notation formats using computer software. Students collaborate with other students within the Music Department, developing partnerships indicative of those that exist in a professional environment. Students benefit from the hands-on approach offered by Commercial Music and Music faculty, with labs being a primary source of learning.
