The certificate is designed to provide students with the fundamentals/responsibilities of driving class 8 trucks as it applies to industrial. The certificate also prepares students for what is expected with the everyday maintenance, field service, and networking within the industry and covers intrastate and interstate requirements.

Program Goal

This certificate is designed to provide students with the fundamentals/responsibilities of driving class 8 trucks as it applies to industrial. The certificate also prepares students for what is expected with the everyday maintenance, field service, and networking within the industry.

PROGRAM LEVEL OUTCOMES:

  • Demonstrate the ability to complete maintenance service logs and service documents
  • Get familiar with inside of a truck features and components.
  • Read maps
  • Trip planning
  • Detect and identify preventive maintenance problems
  • Hooking, and unhooking trailers
  • Disassemble, inspect and repair parts, which are reusable in a manner consistent with accepted trade practices in accordance with manufacturer instructions and specifications
  • Perform all necessary adjustments, demonstrate sequential steps taken in inspection and maintenance heavy–duty truck brake systems, fuel systems, transmission maintenance and inspection and log material in a manner consistent with industry standards
  • Understand types of fuel and the fuel system and tune-up problems using various electronic test equipment. Possible remove and replace components in a manner consistent with industry standards.
  • Perform routine servicing of heavy-duty vehicles by evaluating equipment conditions and successfully and safely removing and replacing tires and other equipment in a manner consistent with industry practices and safety standards

After the discussion and input from the regional Deans SBVC changed from the title from Preparation For Commercial Driver's License to Introduction to Commercial Driver’s License Fundamentals. Received regional recommendation at 5-13-2019 IEDRC Deans Meeting.
