The Certificate of Achievement in Data Science is an educational program that provides a strong foundation for a career in the field of data science. The program equips students with the skills to source and refine data from various platforms. They learn to use tools like SQL for relational databases, Python for data manipulation, and AWS services for advanced data handling and analytics. The curriculum covers essential Python libraries and AWS features, preparing students to manage complex data projects and make informed decisions based on large datasets. This program is tailored to build a solid base in data sourcing, manipulation, and analytics, using tools such as SQL, Python, and AWS, preparing students to excel in data science roles. By the end of the program, students will be equipped not only to contribute effectively to current data projects but also to strengthen their candidacy for advanced positions in the field of data science. 

Program Objectives: 

Upon successful completion of the program, students will: 

1. Python and Data Science Applications: Develop proficiency in Python's powerful libraries for data analysis, visualization, and machine learning, essential for tackling real-world data science challenges. 
2. Statistical Foundations: Understand and apply statistical methods critical for data analysis, enabling the interpretation and communication of statistical findings within data science applications. 
3. Cloud Computing and AWS Database Essentials: Obtain a fundamental understanding of cloud computing with AWS and learn to manage cloud-based databases. 
4. SQL Database Management: Develop a solid grounding in SQL and PL/SQL for Oracle databases, enabling them to efficiently organize, access, and manipulate large volumes of data. 
5. Data Visualization: Acquire the ability to create clear and actionable visualizations with Tableau, a core competency for communicating data insights in the business environment. 

East Los Angeles College's Certificate of Achievement in Data Science, is a comprehensive educational program tailored to the growing tech industry in Los Angeles. The program is designed to equip students with essential skills for sourcing, refining, and analyzing data using tools such as SQL, Python, and AWS. The curriculum covers a range of topics including Python libraries, AWS capabilities, and statistical methods, giving students the ability to tackle complex data projects and roles that require deep analytical insights.

The certificate is designed to offer practical learning experiences, ensuring graduates are job-ready for a market that values data science expertise.

The Data Science Certificate of Achievement program at ELAC will now be offered by the Business department. There are two courses in the Data Science program that are also part of the existing Cloud Computing Certificate program - "Intro to Cloud Computing" and "Database Essentials in AWS". This overlap presents a valuable opportunity for students who have previously completed the Cloud Computing Certificate to further their education and complete the Data Science program more efficiently.
