This certificate is for successful completion of EMS 84 Paramedic Emergency Medical Care Theory. This is the third sequence course in the Paramedic Academy. This course lays the foundations in both adult and pediatric Advanced Medical/Trauma assessment, pathological diagnosis of disorders and treatment. Classes in this area meet California State EMS Authority and ICEMA regulations.

Program Goal

This certificate will provide credit for those who complete the current required course for the Paramedic program Paramedic Emergency Medical Services Theory (EMS 84). The Paramedic program is designed to train students to learn advanced emergency medical care for the sick and injured.  When a student completes the required class EMS 84 they will have a basic understanding of both adult and pediatric Advanced Medical/Trauma assessment, pathological diagnosis, and treatment. This will complete the didactic portion of the Paramedic Academy. They will then be able to take the next group of courses (EMS 85 and 86) in sequential order.

EMS 84 Paramedic Emergency Medical Services Theory 10 units 

(Formerly ALDH 55) This course covers the theoretical and scientific background of emergency medical care in the prehospital setting to include patient assessment, trauma and medical emergencies, and skills practice in the lab. Prerequisite: Application and acceptance to the paramedic program is required before registering for this course. Successful completion of EMS 80, 81, 82, 83.
