The Basic Automation Training certificate is designed for individuals in technical field positions, that include a solid electrical background, who are seeking basic qualifications to be hired or promoted to entry-level positions in instrumentation or process control departments. The certificate is designed as the entry point for more advanced training leading to specializations in automation. All the classes included in the Basic Automation Training Certificate of Achievement are approved by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards as officially recognized classes for the training of Electrical Trainees for the State of California.

The Basic Automation Training Certificate of Achievement opens a formal educational pathway for
technicians and electrical-related tradespeople needed to upgrade their skill sets to the complexities of
the new paradigms in manufacturing. The Basic Automation Training Certificate of Achievement is
necessary to accomplish the strategic goal of harmonizing Modesto Junior College’s specialized
automation track with the vision and goals of the Guided Pathways project (as defined by the California
Community Colleges Chancellor Office.) In pursuing that strategic objective, MJC proposes upgrading
and rearranging the automation pathway in which this new certificate is a fundamental step. As such, it
is the first step leading to the Automation Technician award. In such spirit, the specific goal of the Basic
Automation Training Certificate of Achievement program is to provide the initial classes in automation
technology with immediate practical application in the workplace. Students who accomplish this first
level of technical training will improve their employability value and will find an incentive to further their
technical education in the field of automation.
