The Emergency Medical Services- Paramedic Program is a two year Associate of Science (AS) degree in career preparation. The AS option provides students an opportunity to complete the Emergency Medical Technician Program, and the Paramedic Program with additional course work to obtain a degree.
The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Paramedic is a link from the scene into the health care system. Enrollment of 30 students per year with anticipated 70% completion (21 students) to earn degree.

To facilitate an Associate in Science degree option for students who complete the EMT and Paramedic Programs at Moorpark College. Students seeking higher education and training will be able to obtain a degree in Emergency Medical Services for perspective employment, career advancement, or future healthcare education goals.
The Paramedic Studies Program consists of PM M10-Paramedic Theory and PM M20-Clinical Rotations, which prepare the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians licensing examination and gain employment in emergency medical services. Students who successfully complete the Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic Studies Program will receive an Associate of Science degree from Moorpark College.

Is there an existing Paramedic certificate at Moorpark, and this is simply adding an AS degree for students who complete the GenEd requirements? Or is this the only way to get Paramedic certification through Moorpark?
