Catalog Description

The Medical Billing Certificate is designed around the national American Academy of Professional Coder's (AAPC) Certified Professional Biller (CPB) curriculum. This program provides the students with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills in the health insurance industry,legal and regulatory issues, and differences in reimbursement methodologies.The student will learn principles of medical billing related to proper claim form preparation, submission and payment processing, and the follow up process.This program is recommended for anyone who is preparing for a career in a medical billing department at a physician's office, clinic, or similar positions. This program is strongly recommended for anyone who is preparing for American Academy of Professional Coder’s (AAPC) Certified Professional Biller (CPB™) certification exam. Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

This certification is an adjunct to the Administrative Medical Assistant Program. It allows students to further their education in medical billing needed in doctor's office and advance in their profession. This certificate prepares students to take the national Certified Professional Biller (CPB) examination through the American Academy of Professional Coders.Students who become certified may achieve higher wages.

Program Goal

The Medical Billing certification is an adjunct to the Administrative Medical Assistant Program. It allows the student to further his education in medical billing needed in a doctor's office and advance in his profession. This certificate prepares the student to take the national Certified Professional Biller (CPB) examination through the American Academy of Professional Coders. The student is likely to receive higher wages if certified.

The students will utilize software in the completion of Health Information Management (HIM) processes for billing, data collection, and data reporting.

The students will evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic and procedural billing.

 

The students will apply policies and procedures to the use of data required in healthcare reimbursement.

 

The students will analyze current regulations and established guidelines in billing systems.
