The Recording Arts Technician Certificate is a one-year program that is designed to give students relevant information to enter the field of Recording Arts as an engineer or technician in sound-related recording environments. Students will create and analyze recordings, furthering their own creative process as an engineer and producer of music in the field of recorded sound. Students completing this certificate have made significant progress towards the Commercial Music A. S. degree at Chaffey College.

Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Upon the successful completion of the RecordingArts Technician Certificate of Achievement, students shall be able performtasks such as the following:
- Confer with producers, performers, and others to determine and achieve the desired sound for a production, such as a musical recording or a film.
- Prepare for recording sessions by performing such activities as selecting and setting up microphones.
- Record speech, music, and other sounds on recording media, using recording equipment.
- Regulate volume level and sound quality during recording sessions, using control consoles.
- Separate instruments, vocals, and other sounds, and combine sounds during the mixing or postproduction stage.
Students will develop a base knowledgein the following areas:
- Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of computer hardware and software related to recording arts.
- Communications and Media — Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
- Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Fine Arts — Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and perform works of music, dance, visual arts, drama, and sculpture.
