The Associate of Science in Information Systems and Communication Technologies (ASICT) program equips students with a solid foundation in key IT areas, including network administration, cybersecurity, database management, cloud computing, and software development. Designed to meet industry standards, the program prepares students for immediate employment in entry-level IT roles or transfer to a four-year institution. Emphasizing hands-on learning, students build critical thinking, problem-solving, and communications skills vital for today's collaborative tech environments. Graduates will be prepared to contribute confidently and responsibly in the evolving IT and communication technology fields.
The anticipated enrollment for the Information Systems & Communication technologies (ASICT) program is projected to be 20-30 students per year in the initial phase. This estimate reflects strong local interest in technology-related careers, particularly among high school students in the region who have expressed interest in computer science, cybersecurity, and digital skills. Outreach efforts, including dual enrollment opportunities and career pathway alignment with local high schools, are expected to further support steady enrollment. The Information Systems & Communication Technology (ASICT) degree provides students with a strong academic and technical foundation that prepares them for seamless transfer into bachelor's programs in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, and related fields. The curriculum includes essential lower-division coursework in programming, networking, database concepts, cloud computing, and information security - core areas commonly required by four-year institutions. Students completing this degree will have fulfilled the majority of lower-division major preparation for IT-related programs at CSU campuses, UC campuses offering technology pathways, and private universities. Additionally the program emphasizes key competencies such as problem solving, analytical reasoning, professional communication, and ethical technology use, which align with outcomes expected in upper-division coursework.
