Catalog Description

The Game Development program prepares students for entry-level careers in the interactive entertainment industry and for transfer to four-year programs in related fields. The curriculum integrates computer science fundamentals with artistic, musical, and theatrical elements to provide students with a well-rounded foundation in the design and production of digital games. Students will develop skills in programming, game engines, level and world building, interactive storytelling, sound and music design, and visual/performing arts for games. The program emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and technical problem-solving, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the game industry.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Currently, there are approximately 8-10 completions for the Game certificate program (which is only the core classes required in this degree).  This program expands on the certificate, giving students a well-rounded, interdisciplinary education and a clear pathway for transfer. We anticipate having 20 annual completers in the program.

Program Goal

The Game Development Associate Degree addresses multiple educational purposes for Chaffey students. As transfer preparation, it provides a solid foundation in computer science, interactive media, and the arts that aligns with CSU and UC pathways in Computer Science, Game Design, and Digital Media. As workforce preparation, it equips students with technical and creative skills—such as programming, sound design, animation, and storytelling—that are directly applicable to entry-level careers in California’s rapidly expanding game and interactive media industry. The program also supports the development of basic skills by reinforcing problem-solving, teamwork, and communication through collaborative, project-based learning.
