Catalog Description

The Museum Assistant Certificate is designed to provide students with the entry level skills required for working in galleries and museums, including preparing the walls, handling artwork safely, hanging artwork, researching and laying out an exhibition. The program will prepare students who intend to pursue employment in entry-level museum or gallery positions. This certificate requires 17-19 units of required courses. A minimum grade of C is required in each course taken.

Program Goal

According to the American Alliance for Museums, museums employ more than 400,000 Americans and directly contribute $21 billion to the U.S. economy each year. There is currently continued growth in Southern California, with many large private museums opening. This program provides students with skills necessary for entry level positions.
