Public Works Inspection

This certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry-level and promotional positions in the public works sector and heavy civil construction as well as general engineering type projects. 

Students completing this certificate will:

Evaluate and analyze the various elements of a public works construction project for conformance to applicable project contract documents related to quality of work, safety and contract documentation.

1. Prepare students with the foundational knowledge, skills, and competencies of the technical aspects of Public Works inspection.
2. Provide students with a comprehensive training, and preparation to assume in-demand positions as a Public Works inspector within the Public Works sector of the construction industry, which includes various local municipalities within the region.
3. Prepare students to acquire industry-recognized credentials.

Instruction in an overview of the inspector’s role and responsibilities; including Portland cement and asphaltic concrete, soils and trenching, base and subgrades, concrete footings, structural and reinforcing steel, Cal-OSHA requirements, inspection reporting, and recordkeeping is emphasized in the coursework.
