Catalog Description

The Certificate for Maintenance Mechanic, Level 1 provides the foundational skills necessary to become a Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic or Technician.  This program includes a combination of lecture and practical hands-on laboratory-based classes.  Instructional topics include blueprint reading, precision measurement, electricity and electrical circuit troubleshooting and repair, hydraulic and pneumatic fluid power systems, and materials identification.  This certificate will benefit students interested in entering the manufacturing workforce as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician, or transferring to a 4-year university program.

Enrollment Completer Projections

The Advanced Manufacturing Program will be partnered with the Central Valley Fame chapter of FAME USA, an organization that partners schools with local industry.  These industry partners will sponsor groups of students each year to enroll in and complete the 2-year program.  Each year there will be 2 cohorts of 15–20 students enrolled (30–40 students annually) with 15–20 completers each year.

Program Goal

The Maintenance Mechanic, Level 1 certificate is designed to equip students with the technical skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to succeed in the modern manufacturing industry. The program supports local industries by supplying a skilled workforce to address labor shortages, prepares students for high-wage, high-skill jobs, helps students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills that apply to higher-level STEM and engineering programs, enhances communication and teamwork skills, which are critical in professional manufacturing settings, and prepares students to be informed, responsible citizens who contribute to the local workforce and economy.
